Growing up as what she describes as a “citizen of the world,” singer-songwriter Zaki Ibrahim spent her childhood living at different times in Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France and Lebanon. Currently based in Cape Town, she released her first full length album Every Opposite in 2012 and has now released a music video for one of the tracks on the album, Draw The Line.
“The draw the line story does show me, but not exactly. Coming from the Cape Flats and overcoming an environment with challenges such as poverty, drugs, sexual assault, and Post-Apartheid conditioning is no easy feat. Creating your own path and shining your light through adversity, taking everything that you’ve experienced and everything you are, is what the song is about.”- she says.
When i read the news on #Twitter that another Malaysian plane crashed, a plane crashed in Taiwan, an Algeria plane crashed, Ebola outbreak killed nearly 700 in West Africa and that the war in Gaza is continuing, i did this.
When you receive a mail from someone at agency and they don’t say Hi. Email Etiquette? Nah you disrespecting me.
When you see a competitor copying the things you do and upping their game.
When the Social Bakers stats look good
When a customer constantly complains even after you have helped them.
No amount of GIFs will ever make up for how insane 17 July was. It was the day we have all been waiting for, the day we worked hard for- The Ford South Africa #FordGoFurther event and #MustangParty.
It all happened on the same day at Sandton Convention Centre with almost 800 media and Dealers in attendance. The Go Further event was an exhibition of Fords vehicle line up, a conference which focused on vehicle reveals and Fords plan for the future, a dealer dinner and the spectacular that was my #MustangParty.
I decided to keep the hashtag’s simple. It was #FordGoFurther and #MustangParty for the evening media party. It basically tells you exactly what it is and keeps the brand top of mind.
What were the results like?
Well, we trended 5 times on Twitter that day. The event was also a trending topic for 9 hours and both tags received over 1300 tweets and over 1.5 million reach!
And yes, this was my reaction:
Then my boss did this:
So i was like:
Thanks to all the media, bloggers, influencers and everyone who tweeted, Instagrammed and engaged in the conversation.
Trust me, you guys do not know the amount of stress an auditor can put you through.
I have campaigns to run and so many things on my plate as is, now i have to deal with interrogation sessions from international auditors. Yes, they flew in to do this. So you can just imagine the level its on.
I was fortunate enough to mingle with the stars on the 2014 BET Awards red carpet. Joining me was my #FordSABET competition winner Ashmund Martin. Most of you have seen me tweeting about #FordSABET, but just to recap for those who are not sure, it was a Social Media competition i created and executed for Ford South Africa to give one lucky person the chance to be the first South African to meet the 2015 Ford Mustang. It was a fun interactive competition that spanned over two weeks and included Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Over 1500 entries were received and the stats were amazing to look at. The final winner was announced and got the opportunity to jet set with me like a celebrity to the 2014 BET Awards. He got the chance to fly first class, sleep in a 5 star hotel and mingle with the stars and the biggest star of them all- the 2015 Ford Mustang.
The winner had an amazing time and so did i.
Here’s my live tweeting from the BET Awards red carpet and pictures that i took myself: P.S spot me on the red carpet looking like one of the stars. #BornForThis
The 2014 BET Awards came with a bang. A full weekend of events coined the BET Experience which included talk show events, celebrity basket ball games and live performances boosted excitement to the climax that was the actual red carpet and award show.
I started off my BET weekend by checking out the BET Fan Fest at the Los Angeles Convention centre. South African group Mafikizolo performed their hits Khona and Happiness and they killed it. I also checked out the Celeb basket ball match where Justin Bieber, Chris Brown and Tyga played.
The next day i received vip access to the Ford red carpet which had two 2015 Ford Mustangs on display. I saw and spoke every celeb that walked with me on the red carpet. (Pictures coming in next post)
Now let me tell you. I was amped beyond for the awards show. The line up was epic and BET blind sided us by giving us surprise performers. Chris Brown came out and killed it! So did Yolanda Adams and Iggy Azalea. I even got to see Jhene Aiko do her thing. They also announced that they have a surprise performance from….Beyonce and JayZ. The crowd went crazy but when it came to their time to hit the stage, we were hit with a live cross over from their On The Run Tour. smh!
I enjoyed it all so much. It was such a great experience to be a part of. See the performersHERE.
The 2014 BET Awards is happening soon and with the network promising this year to be the greatest showing yet many have been speculating which artists would be gracing the stage. Earlier in the month BET announced fans could expect performances from Pharrell Williams, Usher, Drake and Lil Wayne. At the time, the only female performer announced was Jennifer Hudson. And now an exciting crop of talent was unveiled!
With a new album due anytime now, Nicki Minaj will be taking the BET stage live to perform. Joining Ms. Minaj on stage will be John Legend, My bae Jhene Aiko, and August Alsina.
Our very own Mafikizolo will also take the stage to perform! I wonder if they will sing Khona or Happiness?
Chris Rock will host the affair at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and yes i will be there.
Oh and yeah, i will be posting photos and updates from the Red Carpet and Award show.
